Crown Isle is the Comox Valley's master-planned resort community, laid out around an 18-hole championship golf course on the East Courtenay plateau. It is the neighbourhood people picture when they imagine retiring to the Island: quiet crescents, manicured yards, patio homes with the golf course out the back door, and the clubhouse a short walk away.
Where it is
Crown Isle sits between Ryan Road and the Inland Island Highway, which puts the Comox Valley Hospital, North Island College and the shopping on Ryan Road within a few minutes. The Comox Valley Airport is a ten-minute drive, and downtown Courtenay is about the same in the other direction.
What you will find
- Patio homes and townhomes for buyers who want the yard work handled and a lock-and-leave home for travel.
- Executive single-family homes on the fairways and on the interior crescents, many custom-built with main-floor primary bedrooms.
- Newer phases that continue to open on the north side, with a mix of ranchers and two-storey family homes.
Who it suits
Retirees and near-retirees are the obvious fit, and Crown Isle has a strong social calendar around the club. It also works well for families who want newer construction close to schools and the aquatic centre, and for anyone posted to 19 Wing who wants a short commute through Comox.
What to check before you buy
Many Crown Isle properties are bare-land strata, which means a modest monthly fee that covers shared roads, landscaping or snow removal depending on the phase. Ask for the strata documents early. Golf-course-adjacent lots also come with the occasional stray ball, so look at where the tee boxes sit relative to the home.
