Relocation and 19 Wing Comox
Relocating to the Comox Valley
Posted to 19 Wing, transferred with the RCMP, hired by the hospital, or simply ready for the Island. Ray has helped relocating families land well here for decades: registered with BGRS, quick to respond, and honest about which neighbourhoods fit your commute and your budget.
CFB Comox
Posted to 19 Wing Comox
Located in the Comox Valley on the northeast side of Vancouver Island, 19 Wing CFB Comox operates primarily as an air force base and shares its runway with the Comox Valley Airport, which flies to Vancouver, Calgary and Edmonton and some vacation destinations. That makes work commutes easy and travel home simple.
Most postings land in Comox, closest to the base, or a little further out on the Comox Peninsula. Families with one spouse at the hospital or the college usually look at Courtenay, for the hospital commute, and members who expect to post out again in three years often prefer homes that rent or resell easily.
Ray offers full service to relocation clients, whether air force, RCMP or corporate, moving to and from the Valley. He has a large referral network, is registered with BGRS, and has years of experience making these transactions smooth. Read the full relocation guide for the towns, schools and weather, or a house-hunting trip, day by day, before you book flights. You can also have listings emailed to you before you arrive.
What is BGRS?
BGRS was founded in 1964 as Royal LePage Relocation Services and is the longest-serving provider of relocation services to the Government of Canada. Its Government Services division has administered the Integrated Relocation Program for the Canadian Forces and the RCMP since 1999, handling more than 20,000 relocations a year through a directory of approved third-party service providers.
The Integrated Relocation Program centralizes the administration of a member's move with a single contractor so the member can focus on the posting, not the logistics. Ray works inside that program as an approved REALTOR®.
The house-hunting trip
How Ray runs an HHT
Short windows reward preparation. Here is the plan Ray actually uses.
Before you fly
Written pre-approval, must-haves and commute tolerance, whether you need a suite, and the inspector, lawyer and contractors lined up.
Day one
A full schedule of showings across the neighbourhoods that fit, with the evening reserved for driving them at commute time.
Days two and three
Second viewings, the offer, inspection and appraisal, so subjects can be removed before you leave.
After you leave
Ray manages the rest: document review, contractor quotes, completion with your lawyer, and keys on possession day.
Where postings land
Neighbourhoods by commute
Comox: 5 minutes
Walk or bike to the base, the schools and the marina. The first choice for many postings.
East Courtenay: 10 minutes
Newer homes, big-box shopping, the aquatic centre and the hospital close by.
Crown Isle: 12 minutes
Executive homes and patio homes around the golf course, beside the airport.
Cumberland: 22 minutes
The village, the trails and Comox Lake, for families who want the outdoors at the door.
Relocation FAQ
Questions relocating families ask
Does Ray work with BGRS and the Integrated Relocation Program?
Yes. Ray is registered with BGRS (Brookfield Global Relocation Services), the longest-serving provider of relocation services to the Government of Canada, the Canadian Forces and the RCMP. He knows the paperwork and timelines the program expects.
How much can we accomplish on a five-day house-hunting trip?
A lot, with preparation. Ray books a full day of showings first, narrows to second viewings and inspections on days two and three, and lines up an inspector, lawyer and any well or septic contractor in advance so subject removal can happen inside the trip.
Which neighbourhoods are closest to the base?
Comox itself is a five-minute drive or an easy bike. East Courtenay and Crown Isle are ten to fifteen minutes. Cumberland, Royston and the peninsula's rural areas run twenty to twenty-five minutes. Ray will drive the routes with you at commute time.
Can we buy without visiting?
Clients have. Ray does video walkthroughs, manages the inspection and contractors, and keeps you updated daily. It works best when you have already visited the Valley once, but it is not required.
What about selling when the next posting comes?
Ray handles the sale the same way: honest pricing from current comparables, professional photography, a marketing plan, and the paperwork BGRS needs. Many clients have moved in and out of the Valley with him more than once.
